Pure ethanol or E100 is also known as ethyl alcohol or grain alcohol. It is made when corn, grain, or other agricultural products are fermented, distilled, and denatured and because of this, it is a continually renewable resource, a true benefit in the world of alternative fuels. Another benefit is the fact that, unlike many other, mainly petroleum based, fuels, it contributes nothing to the build-up of greenhouse gases. Building on Landfill Sites

We would like to emphasise that, if at all possible, building on landfill sites containing putrescible material, and which therefore are likely to be generating landfill gas should be avoided.


Some old landfills will be free from landfill gas, but do take great care to obtain expert advice before you assume that any particular landfill is truly free from landfill gas, and that therefore no risk exists. We have found that landfill sites are continuing to produce significant volumes of landfill gas, for many years and many sites are still producing gas after in excess of thirty years from closure.

The Expanding E85 Fleet of General Motors

The E85 movement, which is based on an alternate fuel consisting of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, is getting an additional boost thanks to a recent decision by General Motors to expand its existing line up from 9 models to 14. This increase will mean that General Motors, which already has nearly 2 million E85 vehicles on the road, will be able to produce as many as 400,000 E85 vehicles per year.
