Toyota Announced Development of Lithium-Ion Batteries

Hybrid vehicles have been famous ever since Toyota released the Prius in the United States. Currently, the demand for hybrid electric vehicles is staggering that one could see in the sales figures posted by Toyota that the Prius is one of their fastest growing models in terms of sales.


Hybrid electric vehicles are equipped with a small engine, most commonly powered by gasoline, and an electric motor. The electric motor helps the engine generate power to drive the vehicle. The presence of an electric motor allows the engine to shut off during low speed driving or while decelerating. When a vehicle is stationary, instead of idling, the engine shuts down and the batteries are recharged.

New California Greenhouse Gas Law: How It Will Affect California Industry

California has just passed a law that s designed to lower the amount of greenhouse gas pollution the state puts out. The idea is to stop, or at least slow down, the effects of global warming. It s a little complicated, but here are the details as I see them: –Businesses in the state need to cut their greenhouse gas emissions back to 1990 levels by 2020. –Industries that are traditionally heavy-polluters, like refineries, power plants, and cement makers, will be required to report on their progress in lowering emissions. –A state agency, the California Air Resources Board, will be in charge of implementing and enforcing the new regulations.

The Economics of Climate Change: Is Doing Nothing Too Costly

In November 2004, the North Atlantic Drift, the warm current that provides Europe with its temperate climate, stopped flowing northward. Ten days later, the current resumed.


Scientists were stunned. Lloyd Keigwin of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution called the event the most abrupt change in the whole record of climate. We d never seen anything like that before and we don t understand it, Harry Bryden of the National Oceanography Centre explained.


Climate models have suggested that a consequence of climate change could be a slowing or stopping of this current. Had the world reached the precipice of abrupt climate change only to step back and gain a temporary reprieve of uncertain duration? Scientists don t know.
